In the Autumn of 2019 Heald Place Primary School asked us to use our photographs and expertise of “Curry Mile”to help with some year 1 classroom lessons.
Testimonial from Fraser MacDonald – year i Teacher at Heald Place Primary School, Rusholme.
Phil and Della from the Rusholme Heritage Project came into Heald Place Primary School to support our KS1 pupils’ new local history project. They worked with a teacher at the school to plan and deliver 3 lessons about how Rusholme had changed since the 1970s. They prepared photographs, case studies and a large sketch map of the curry mile for children to use. The children were engaged and intrigued to study the photos Phil and Della had taken. The case studies they provided showed how local businesses had changed over time and helped reveal wider changes in our country such as immigration and shopping habits. This matched well to the National Curriculum. The sketch map allowed children to develop a greater understanding of their area’s history and geography. Thank you for all your efforts with this project!
