Barbers Bar

The Barbers Bar – (In between Thurloe St and Park Crescent) Adam, originally from Palestine, has been a barber in Rusholme for 8 years. He told me the other barbers in the shop come from all over the world such as, Adam from Palestine,  others from Columbia, Syria and northern Iraq. The parrot that use to be in a cage in  the shop window is called “Lou” but has been moved to a better place to live.

Shyban – Barber and manager of The Barber’s Bar – originally came from Alepo, Syria. He moved  to Rusholme 3 years ago “for a safe place to live”
There are about 13 barbers along Curry Mile today but in 1958 there was only one barbers called Phillips – Gents Hairdressers. They also sold and repaired umbrellas.  The shop was on the corner of Denison Street and Wilmslow Road.  Which is now a Turkish Restaurant   called Sultanahmet Grill
